DETROIT, October 26, 2023 ~ The holiday season is officially upon us.

But the house is showing signs of wear and tear and we aren’t feeling good about how it will present to family and friends when we entertain.

What to do? How about considering getting a fresh coat of paint on the outside? Too aggressive on the budget?

We have some other great ideas that will not only impress your houseguests but will also renew your appreciation for the place you call home.

The first suggestion is to repaint or re-stain your front door and garage doors. The annual cost to value survey conducted by remodelers and real estate professionals always shows that a new look on the main entrance doors creates great curb appeal without major work or expense.

Many doors, whether wood, metal or fiberglass, can be made to visually mimic real wood if the finish is applied by an expert.

The trick to such upgrades is to have them performed by a professional that includes design and assistance in color and product choices.

Another project to consider is removal of all the old wallpaper, patching the plaster and applying new paint to tired old rooms.

One great thing about paint is that it is not a permanent solution to any interior decor.

If styles change or you tire of a color, you can simply re-coat the surface with another choice.

Another idea is to create an accent wall in your great room or elsewhere. Use of bold color on this one wall can help to coordinate the room’s furnishings and can really change the dynamic in the space.

Another way to exploit the accent wall is to create some dimension by applying a geometric design on the wall with unique wood trims.

Repeating patterns from intersecting circles to octagons and more are finding their way on these walls to create an intriguing focal point or background in an interior space.

If your taste runs more to the traditional, you might consider installation of a chair rail in the dining area with a built-up cove molding at the top of the walls.
